Canadian Athlete Network ("CAN", "we", "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

Account information: name, email, phone number, role (athlete, coach, admin), and password (hashed). A phone number is required at signup for account recovery, verification, and recruiting communications.
Profile information: sport, position, school, height, weight, photos, videos, achievements — provided voluntarily by you.
Usage data: pages viewed, profile views, messages sent, and similar activity used to improve the platform.
Payment data: processed by Stripe. We never store your full credit card number.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
To connect athletes with coaches and recruiters.
To send transactional and membership-related emails.
To contact you by phone or SMS for account verification, account recovery, important service notices, and — where you have opted in — recruiting-related updates. Standard message and data rates may apply.
To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms.

3. How Information Is Shared

Your athlete profile is visible to verified coaches and recruiters when set to "Public". You may set your profile to "Private" at any time. Your phone number is only shared with verified coaches and recruiters if you choose to display it on your athlete profile; it is never shown publicly outside the platform. We do not sell your personal information.

We share data only with:

Service providers (e.g., Stripe for payments, hosting providers).
Law enforcement when legally required.
Other users, only as necessary for messaging, profile views, and recruitment.

4. Data Retention

We retain your information while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting support.

5. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards including encryption in transit, access controls, and audit logs. No system is 100% secure, so we encourage you to use a strong, unique password.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (including PIPEDA in Canada and GDPR in the EU), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information. Email privacy@canadianathletenetwork.com to exercise these rights.

7. Minors

We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. Users under 18 should have parent or guardian permission. If you believe a minor has provided us with information without consent, please contact us.

8. Cookies

We use cookies to keep you logged in, remember preferences, and measure platform usage. You may disable cookies in your browser, but parts of the Service may not function correctly.

9. International Users

CAN is operated from Canada. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer and processing of your information in Canada.

10. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will post the updated version with a new "Last updated" date.
